motor interchangability

looking at picking up an 04 ranger with a bad 4.0 motor... its auto 4x4 extended cab... i know the ins/outs of the 0hv motor but new to the sohc... what other year motors would swap into the 04? i as told 04 was its own year? looking to you guys for some insight....

i think you can swap over any 4.0 sohc . you may need to swap a few sensors over..

Base engine is the same. In terms of the intake, wiring, sensors, etc, 04 may be it's own year, but the base engine is the same.
