More Power

arrow: you need some way of marking your driveline and tires (tape, grease marker, ect) a jack, and 2 jack stands.

jack the rear axle up and support it with both tires off the ground (make sure the truck doesnt roll).

mark the drive line and mark both tires at their "12-o-clock" positions.

with the trans. in nuetral, you need to slowly spin both tires at the same time, in the same direction...keeping them even with each other. as you rotate them, they will spin the driveline. watch the driveline and count how many revolutions it makes for 1 revolution of the tires.

3 1/2 turns means you have 3.45 gears.
3 3/4 turns means 3.73's.
just over 4 turns is 4.10's.

sludge: thanks. i recently had to replace to rear axle seals so it's still up on stands. Also, i don't think my coolant gauge is working. Where is the sensor located (i don't have a manual, yet)? I did a KEYONENGINEON test yesterday and one code came back as "coolant temperature higher or lower than expected". I don't know if the rads doin a good job at keeping the temp. down or if it is running a little hot (so many things need to be fixed *argh*)

your computer and your temp gauge use two different sensors. if your computer is getting coolant temp codes and your temp gauge stays in the "Cold" area, its possible you have a stuck-open t-stat.

dont get overwelmed by what needs to be done on a used vehicle (sometimes its a lot). just take it one step at a time and you'll get there before you know it.

the temp gauge sensor, is near the front of the motor, kind of behind the fan, with one red wire going to it. facing forward. it is a p.i.t.a to unplug and plug in sometimes.

k, sludge. I checked the driveline and what not, but the driveline spun only 1 2/3 times for 1 rotation. And i have to spend alot of money on this used truck because it's from out-of-province and it needs to be safetyed before it can be plated. But i kinda thought that my t-stat was gone.

are you sure you kep both tires even with one another as they went around? if you let one tire fall behind, your spider gears will start spinning, giving you a false "reading".

im pretty sure there is no 1.66:1 ratio available :derisive:

If he still has the tag on the rear axle, he could look at that. shady

there is a tag but it's kinda worn down to the point that it's unreadable (unfortunately).

You could always paint a picture of Chuck Norris on your hood. Im sure that would give you about +220hp and +340 torque.

you know, they say Chuck Norris is so tough that under his beard, there is no chin; there is only another fist.

They also say, that when he's training and doing push ups he doesn't push himself up... he pushes the floor down.

Not trying to be rude, but Will is wrong.

You CAN see a little difference replacing the sled type fulcrum rockers (3.0 and the lo-perf versions of the 351C, 429, and 460) with roller rockers. The oil will probably stay a bit cooler too, along with the possibility the valve guides will wear slower.

Though I do admit the cost of the upgrade is a bit much.

If someone spins the axle shaft (non-posi-vehicle) and counts the driveshaft revolutions, the ratio of the spider gears to the side gears will throw the count way off.

I spin the driveshaft and count the turns of the wheels with both of them off the ground and the rear brakes not dragging.
