More power and torque

your used to the OHV which likes to be treated like a 460. the SOHC is a high winding engine (its torque curve is VERY similar to the 3.0).

ICE's reach their highest volumetric efficiency at the peak torque RPM for a given throttle setting. for full throttle, thats 3,000 RPM. for part throttle (cruise) it would be just below that....but probably still over 2500 (the only way to tell for sure would be to do a dyno run at part-throttle).

tons of people ask this question and it seems like everyone on here says "re-gear" but thats not cheap. i got my truck quoted for $1,200 to lock and re-gear it (including labor). if you got that kind of cash laying around i would go for it but thats a lot of money to me.

I feel sorry for Wicked_, seems like he's on here arguing about this same topic every couple of days. I agree with him completely on this one.

If you want to waste your money on a "hot-air intake" for the sole reason of making your truck sound "cool" then be my guest. Be sure to pick up some MAF cleaner while you're at it.

There are a couple k&n products I like and use, but ironically neither of them are air filters. I use k&n oil filters and k&n sealing grease.

yes K&N make a product that is worth nothing. okay sure;) the factory is by far the best in everyway, don't change anything

There are tons of products on the market that are total scams. If there is a market for something, it will be produced, regardless of it's usefulness. Think of all the weight loss pills, etc. out there. K&N filters are one of those products, especially for an RBV.

Do you really think the auto engineers spend tens of millions of dollars on internal engine R & D, and then neglect designing a simple intake correctly?

And take a look at my sig, you'll see that I don't always think factory is better and shouldn't be changed...

But it still has as more torque than the OHV starting before 2000 RPMs

the torque NUMBERS are irrelivent. its the torque CURVE that matters for fuel economy. the OHV's curve is much flatter, making it more forgiving of driving above or below it peaks torque RPM. the SOHCs curve drops off more sharply at either end and its peak occures later in the powerband than the OHV, meaning it prefers to wind up a bit more than the OHV.

if i can describe it another way: the OHV is at (lets say) 90% of its peak torque at 2400 RPM, wheras the SOHC is only at 70% (numbers used just for example, not actual percentages).

so since i already made a home made air intake do u know where i could get the stuff to make it stock again, i would need the whole setup, i destroyed mine because i was sucked in by the media and made my own, can someone please help. Also i was wondering which was better and easier for me to do, supercharge or turbo it, and along with that i am going to re-gear it and chip it, but i was wondering which tuner to get and where i can get it i see superchips all over the place but are they really any good. please help

Spend the regearing money

First and then see what you have... Then if you aren't happy worry at that time about what to do next.

Never make more than one change at a time. One change may make the other not work and the result might be NOTHING! Also if the thing does run better you won't have a clue what did the job.

If you regear properly to your tire size you should be content with the results.
