I do not envy you rust belt guys but that honestly isn't in a stress area so I'd just silicone up that bolt and go for it... The '97 Ranger I just got going is rustier than I'm used to and it's no where near where most of the pictures I've seen are... there's less surface rust on my '90 Ranger than the '97 but it's just surface rust, I just changed the complete I beam and spindle and was able to use hand tools but took shortcuts with my small impact...

I was dealing with this BS, some dumbarse pulled the thing out of a ditch with a chain on the weak part of the I beam... The bent beam is from a '97, don't remember what year on the donor but it was '95-97...

I have taken two five gallon buckets of scale, two beds, both fenders and doors, shackles, Springs, body mounts, the entire back and underside of my cab, skid plates, sway bars, and now an entire frame off of my truck over rust.

My truck is essentially only 40% of the one I started with. Only original parts are short block and cab. No others. None. The only ones not due to rust were the transmission swap and rear axle swap. Even did the interior swap over rust.

I broke an exhaust flange off a head over rust.

holy cow... just to help your feelings there's still factory paint on my bent up '89 radius arm cross member... the only weakened metal I've dealt with has been my drivers side shakle mount in the back that broke off partially from being rolled 8 years ago then bent back with a big adjustable wrench... For good measure most of a 7/8" wrench was welded to the top of the frame...

I don't feel too bad abut the 2 bed bolts that have too much rust on them to tighten all the way, that's the worst I've got right now... I'm pretty sure they would back out but I didn't get the rust off before I put the bed back on last time...

I work on old farm equipment at times that is left outside, one of my brothers tractors the turbo bolts are about to flake away from rust and the brake bleeders are broken off... I do understand...

I'd probably use JB weld to fill up that hole instead of silicone but either would be fine. Even liquid nails would work.

Does that pin hole intersect the bolt hole? All the way through to the inside? Almost looks like it's somebody's messed up idea of a drain but they didn't do it right. Looks too round and clean to be corrosion, looks like it was put there intentionally.

Believe it or not, the thing has just rotted that much. Had to scrape a lot of aluminum off the inside of the axle beam.
