The top of the bed on a Ranger is about level with the bottom of the windows. On this truck it is a good 2" or better higher... which leads me to think the rear frame is different so the Ranger bed sits higher compared to everything else.
But wouldn't that change in a SUV vs a truck? Things that would be terrible in a SUV wouldn't be as bad in a truck with half the passenger area.
My guess is they are testing the more or less finished running gear and threw the body on so they had somewhere to sit.
How about the box has been raised with 3" body lift? The top curves of fenders seem to be raised too.
And I suspect shortening the wheelbase that much has impact on how the gas tank fits/bobbing the rear quarters leaves little room for spare.
No one else comments on the reports of unibody mini pickup joining lineup? (last line of article)
