More Air to The Intake vs. economy

no, u dont gotta be a prick, i dont sell autoparts for a living i work for a shop where we specialize in 4x4 trucks, been doin this since i turned 18, we can argue about it all day, but engineering and everyday are 2 different things, u can keep ur opinion and ill keep mine, but theres reasons i have so many customers......

:tease:
You sell auto parts?

I'll bet you sell lots of bullshit then. Like "tornados." Every auto parts store in existence seems to have them.

Customers DON'T HAVE A CLUE for the most part. That doesn't substantiate your claim. As for manufacturers not being able to hook up emissions to a "free flowing" intake, that's just more BS. What emissions is required? AT MOST a thermostatic switch. Period. And quite a few engines don't even have that.

So, keep digging yourself a hole. It's VERY clear you don't have the slightest clue what you are talking about.

That "2HP" BS (it's usually closer to 5HP) is claimed SPECIFICALLY because it's dang near impossible to measure even with a dyno. It's marketing.

Almostclueless, a "free flowing" intake isn't going to do anything UNLESS the throttle is mashed to the floor. The throttle is a FAR bigger restriction than any intake. And it also has to be revving quite high.

can u substaniate then the need for a large amount of ruber tubing to get to a place that a much more direct route can take, and what is the point of a noise supressor in stock intakes....im sure that isnt there to increase gasmileage or performance on a engine, and i dont see how that can help anything either, if u have a way to show me that a stock intake will flow better then a aftermarket unit then by all means

I made absolutely no claim that a stock intake will flow better than aftermarket. DO NOT put words into my mouth.

What I said is that there will be no benefit, except perhaps for you making some profit.

And engineering IS the real world. Or don't you use bridges or airplanes? There is quite a lot more to designing a tube than you think.

It's no accident that every one of those "cheap" modifications lists performance gains in the few-HP zone.

And that you might have customers DOES NOT mean you're right. People buy those stupid E-bay resistors, fuel line magnets, and a host of other "economy" mods that have been proven beyond a doubt to have no effect.

The idea that you lose mileage by sucking through a stock intake is just shy of crazy.

this is what u said i said, now whos putting words into whose mouth, i never said u said anything, all i said is that

im sure that isnt there to increase gasmileage or performance on a engine

this was in reference to the noise supressors that are on most vehicles 1990 and newer, i was asking u the purpose from a engineering standpoint of a noise supressor on a vehicle, u go way overboard and get extremely defensive when discussing topics of this nature

also...i am not talking about CHEAP modifications, not like u get some shiny piping and throw it on and expect the world, im talking more along the lines of all the companies that make custom fit performance intakes, im sure as much if not more research goes into the design of a aftermarket k&n intake system then the stock systems on vehciles. the customers i sell these to and install them for arent gettin the $20 advance auto intake there spendin atleast 150+ on a k&n intake system or another of the same quality.

But like gross said, HP gains IF any are going to be at wide open throttle, and at that point the throttle body is the restriction, not the 'tube'.......

Getting a 'better flowing' intake tube is like my qoute, mechanical masterbation......

May as well take the tube off, so there is no 'restriction', c'mon the stock instake flows just fine, the 'performance' ones are there to make people money, thats it.

performance ones do gain power, dyne pull after dyno pull has proven it, now maybe u wont gain shit from a 2.3 with a intake, but a proper aftermarket intake for v8's does add a decent amount of power, in my experience anywhere from 10-20 with kits from k&n and such....and yes i DO have a dyno in my shop as we do alot of engine work aswell.....
