Mods to increase the torque?

Hey, no offense taken Scott, i was told all 4 cyl rangers after a certain year had 4.10s and i belived it because my dads 97 2wd auto has 4.10s. I know more about mustangs than rangers!

Theres where you think all the four banger rangers had 4.1 gearing... Your experience was with an auto... I have driven three rangers( all 2wd, four cyl/ 5speed) and have encountered 3.73(like mine), 3.08, and 3.42 gearing... Now all the 02-up rangers with either auto or supercab had 4.1 gearing...

Upper intake spacer. Look into what that does for an engine.

It works better than you think. Its benefits are twofold on a FI engine... A phenolic spacer will stop heat transfer to your upper intake, lowering your IAT's, and the spacer will either boost plenum volume, or marginally increase runner length... Either way, more torque...

I have a 92 ranger, 2.3 5spd which also had the 3.08 ratio with a open diff. I just swapped the carrier out with a limited slip and 5.13 gears. The truck is never in a bind now. It has a 3 inch body and tonight will be adding 7.5 inches of suspension lift. Then tomorrow the 35's go on. So hopefully the 5.13s and 35 will be a decent combo.

yep 19bonestock hit the nail. Most all 4cyl automatics are 4.10s. My 94 5spd was 3.45,but now has a 8.8 LSD with 4.10s, my wife's 93 5spd has 3.73s & a co workers 97 splash has 3,73s

or a 2.3L ecoboost

Why on Earth would you dredge up this post? This is no longer relevant to the OP, and anyone who searches this will hopefully have pulled up more useful threads. My childhood kitty is dead, too, but you don't see me digging her up just because I want to come and play.

mmblvl5, really? "Be done with it?" Because swapping in a diesel drivetrain is cake walk. At 105 hp and 260 ft-lbs, it's a lot of work for a power mod.

A quicker swap, that is more direct and less of a wiring headache and custom parts fiasco, a 4.0L would be better. At 170 hp and 225 ft-lbs, it's more than enough for a small Ranger.

That's why I posted something so stupid. Sell the ranger and buy a better platform. I don't really see the point in swapping a Cummins or a V8 into a ranger. If you want the torque buy a truck that already has it, no point of nickel and diming yourself to death.

Ah, now this is where the disconnect lies. If you feel that way, then you are missing the main mantra of this website altogether.
