Mini Spool! your opinion

Sounds like you have more to worry about then eating up the tires if you cant do u-turns. I have been running a spools in my Rangers for years on the street. Yeah you will go though tires faster (which reminds me...time for two new tires lol) but steering should not be effected noticeably. Even on my old Ranger It wasn't effected much with no power steering and 35s.

I pulled a carrier out of a circle track car with a ford 9 once, it had a mini spool and the splines were toast. I don't know how many races it had, but since then I swore I'd never run a mini spool.

I'm surprised you can't get a full spool for a 28-spl, but I just did a search and I couldn't find one either

get a lunchbox locker for around $300

or weld it for cheap

Some go so far as to wedge bolts, pieces of angle iron etc. in between the spider/side gears and carrier and melting the whole thing into a giant blob of melted metal.

The idea is to reinforce the unit with as many welds as possible without distorting and/or weakening the carrier with excessive heat.

haha.i did exactly that in my front end when i blew up the spiders..but i was in snow and snapped a shaft 3-4 months later..
