my new 2000 3.0 5speed 2wd x-cab got me around 26 roughly on my 250 mile trip back home. It was great considering i got 13 mpg the whole way up with my dakota r/t that was getting traded in.
I got 24-26ish out of a rented 2006 explorer. 4.0L, 5spd auto, 4x4 ...... and I have DTS (digital throttle syndrome) and tend not to be nice to anything that weighs less than 26,000 pounds. I had a 90 B2 that received a 3.0L from an aerostar and a 5spd that got a consistent 24 mpg. and a consistent 14 that winter with most of its time in 4wd. the same engine got 24 in the aerostar it came out of.
