Mile Marker Winch?????????

Will they hold up? Are they good for the money? Should I just buy a Warn????????

mile marker is the manufacturer of Tmax winches and the Smittybilt winch. they are all pretty much equal. personally, i cant justify the cost difference to buy a warn. it depends on what you will be using it for though. what kind of wheeling do you do? do you expect to be hanging in life or death situations on the end of this winch? if you do then theres no such thing as too expensive for something like that. on the otherhand, if your just a moderate wheeler, i think that the smittybilt would work fine for you.

I have a MM E9000 on my Ranger and other than being slow, I have never had any problems out of it. I still want one of the new Powerhouse WARNs of course, but they are almost 1k more than what I paid for my MM.

the hydralic milemarkers don't work if you can't have your truck running. Not saying they are a bad unit, just one of the little details. at least with the electric winch you can still tug with no engine going. for a little while at least.

After burning up a PileMarker 8,000 and a Harbor Freight 8,000 (exact same winch) I can't in good concious recommend one. They are painfully slow. I think their being slow is one thing that trashes them in the end--they run on for minutes and grind themselves to bits. A fast winch takes just a few seconds to get a job done. Plus on the trail people aren't always annoyed while you wind your slow winch up.

I compared speed with price, plus I wanted a sealed integrated one and THIS is the best deal. I paid $600 shipped for mine.

I use a "Champion" from COSTO, 8000 lb and came with wired remote, 90' cable, snatch block, fairlead, mounting plate, gloves and strap all for $330.00. Granted, it's CHINESE but I've used it several times and it works fine.

I also have a Champion, but the 9500lb model. I payed $400cdn for it.

I've done some pretty nasty pulls with it, and it hasn't given me any trouble. The only con is that the free-wheel lever is setup really stupid, and it's plastic.

They aren't bad for a starter winch or something mounted on a trailer. I bought one, I paid my dues. I'm bolting it on my trailer and buying a real winch for my Chevy.

I've got the harbor freight version of the mile marker. It's painfully slow but it's saved my bacon on a few occasions. The problem I've found is after a long pull through the mud it will stop working until it cools down. If your using it just occasionally it's works just fine. If your going to use it a lot then spend the extra money. For me if I had to justify the extra money I wouldn't have one hanging on the front of my truck. I really like the piece of mind it gives me. It also saves my friend from breaking parts having to pull me out of another mud hole. I love the mud, someday I'll get a truck that's made for it.

the thing with these winches is duty cycle. I will run my winch for 30-45 seconds and then let it cool for 1 minute. I do this untill I'm done.

I got out of a lot of jams with my 2 piece of crap things. Then one day, each of them failed me. Then I was using my come-along with it's 6' of pull--and 2 of that is taking up slack.

As I got older, the more I needed a good winch. I just can't afford to be scrambling around on hillsides, out of breath, winding 75' of Chinese winch cable around my truck and using the come-along.
