Measure Total Travel ?

How do you measure overall sus travel. I've been reading, alot. I see articles say a truck has a 13" travel shock in the rear but overall travel is 20+"s.

make a mark on the center of the hub, put the suspension at full bump, take a measurment, then droop the suspension out, measure from the same points. Now figure out the difference.

Depending on how a shock is angled and at what point of the suspension it is mounted off of, you can get away with using a shorter shock with a large travel ammount.
