Dummy gauge runs about 1/2 all the time after warm up. ran it up and down the roads a couple times, more than 10 minutes.

Need to test the clutch fan, forgot how. Google here i come. Dirty

fan Clutch tight, wont spin but about 4 to 6 inches either way. might be power loss but nothing to do with high idle, correct. Dirty

Temp is not a dummy gauge, its real time

Correct, fan clutch is not related to idle

With engine stone cold, start it and count to 20, then shut engine off
Open hood and spin fan, should be unlocked and easy to spin

After 10+ minutes of driving shut off engine and spin fan again, should be hard to spin, locked

It locks based on radiator heat

Ill try that first thing in the morning, Thanks Dirty

No change is resistance of fan clutch. Stone cold(68 degrees outside) still wont turn with force. locked in hot position. Dirty.

You have to start engine FIRST, when fan clutch is cold its also locked, then shut engine off after 15-20 seconds, and fan should be unlocked now

Fan clutch has an "oil" inside, it gets thick when cold, spinning the clutch for 15-20 seconds, warms up the "oil" which allows it to flow and unlocks the fan

Started engine ,counted to 20 shut off engine, opened hood and tried to spin fan. still have resistance. locked fan, correct. Dirty

Yes, if its the same as when warm then it is locked, called "fail safe" mode, so its always providing best air flow, no rush to change it but should be changed

After the change you will notice "fan noise" on start up but then after a few seconds noise dies down as fan unlocks
Pretty much all mechanical fan engines should do this, noise then less noise at cold start

Thanks RonD, you have helped alot. I think the ECT is out of range. Checked the IAT and its values were on scale. I'll pick one up soon and see what its ohm values are before i install it. Dirty

The New ECT measured 35.5ohms cold at 74 degrees and 2.1ohms at boiling water temp(213). Dropped the idle rpm after warm up by 3 or 4 hundred. now on to the fan clutch. Thanks Dirty
