Making a bumper

So today and went out and bought a six foot piece of 6" C-Channel steel. Im going to have the ends angled off about 6" on each side. I am also in the process of fixing up a brush/grill guard thing that has a winch mount plate on it. It was on a toyota that rolled so one the side plates had couple nice bends in it that I gotta straighten out and then I am going to mount that to the bumper. I will take pics along the way but just thought I would share my iders.

cool i'm going to be doing the same thing in a couple of months when the weather breaks. but i was thinking of using 9-12" c-chanel. i'm going to do the rear too. good luck and i look foward too the pics.

Got it made. Took Cell phone pics cause the camera wasnt working but they arent too bad. I will upload them once I get back to my own computer.

Ok. First I started out with a 6 foot piece of six inch C-channel steel. I figured out what angle I wanted it to cut back at, which is 30 degrees. So, I measured out 30 degrees and made marks on the bumper, then torched it out and grinded it down.

Then I stood it up in a vise so I could heat it up and bend it down until the metal touched itself.

After I bent it down I tack welded it into place

Torched off my old bumper

And welded to new one to the frame

Actually, I am going to mount a winch behind it and have it come through the bumper. Need some sort of a brush guard though. Oh and Tow hooks or D-Rings?

D rings FTW. im definately building a bumper like this once i get my truck. but im just gonna put a reciever in the bumper. have one of those reciever winches. do you have... or have you already built a rear bumper?

No rear bumper. I like the look of my rear bumper so I think I'm just going to take it off, cuts some holes in it for back up lights (Not having working backup lights sucks, especially when wheeling and have to go backwards down trails for a 2 miles in the snow), repaint it, and make brackets so it sits like it did before the body lift.

Those weld-on d-rings like you see on trailers are pretty worthless on a bumper, in my opinion. I had them on the rear of my Ranger, never used them since I had to use a clevis to attache to them anyway...

About how big are those things? cant really tell dimensions from the pic. I like the look of tow hooks on bumpers so I might add those on just for the look.

I have Drings. I wish I had clevis mounts like JohnnyU posted. Even if you have Drings, you need clevises to hook up straps to them.
