Maglites

Because Aggravated Assault is a lesser charge than Attempted Murder maybe?

I don't go around hitting people with flashlights for kicks. If someone threatens me, I want the threat ended immediately.

I think we can all agree that this thread was started because having a flashlight in a truck is something of a necessity for its use as a TOOL not as a WEAPON. I didn't start talking about whacking people with it, or shooting people, or hacking people with an axe. Can't we all just get along?

Streamlights are the only way to go, more specifically the LED DS Stinger.

I have 2 of them, also an older xenon Stinger w/ the Lite Pipe conversion, and a Stylus Pro.

They beat a Mag light in every way, except billyclub duties.

I had one mounted on my (89-94)dash between the glove box and ashtray. Wasn't in the way of anything, had easy access, and was always charged up. I just screwed the single quick charger to the dash, and wired it into the truck's harness with a 5A fuse.

My Stylus Pro is a very good light, probably good enough for 90% of what you would use a flashlight for. My 2D LED Maglight can both paint my entire barn in light from the front door of my house or light up the width of the gravel road at the stopsign 1/2 a mile from my driveway. You can see the Stylus quite a ways out there but it doesn't really accomplish anything much past my barn.

Maglites were a big thing when I was in Boy Scouts 10-20 years ago. One kid had a 6D and it was like the holy grail. I had a 3D and it was ok, I broke it breaking ice in the parents stock tank when I was a kid. Even 2D's were respected.

Recently I thought it would be nice to get another one, all you can get now are 2D's... remembering how they were coveted back then I went ahead and got a regular 2D one. That thing was pathetic, I had been horridly spoiled by LED's without even knowing it... so I got an LED mag which I really like.

Meh... LEDs have the edge in efficiency and for brightness up-close, but I find their bluish-white color creates a lot of glare.

I modified my 2D-cell MagLite to use a 6-cell MagStar xenon bulb and 7 NiMH rechargeable AA cells and a charge port on the end. It's as bright at a distance as a lot of the new-fangled LED lights are (and doesn't wash out all the colors). There are occasions I do wish it had the multiple light output levels though.

I like my $4 Cree LEDs from amazon.
