Are there any mechanics here?????????????

I recently had a "Check Engine Light" come on in my truck, it only came on the one time. I posted this thread.
http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22063

Well it came on again, same code. I really need to fix this. The EGR system appears to be working, I disconnected the IAC, started the truck and applied a vaccuum to the EGR valve and the idle dropped. GOOD, the EGR valve works.

Vaccuum to the EGR Valve changes properly with engine RPM and Load.

So what sensor sends the signal to the computer??? Mechanically the EGR System is working properly, so electrically some sensor is sending the wrong signal to the ECM.

Is there anyone here that knows anything about the Ranger Emmisions systems?? Please Help

The DPFE provides a feedback signal that the EGR did open. It is a NOTORIOUS failure item.

It's a small rectangular box (metal or plastic - but BUY the plastic) with two hoses and an electrical connector. Any auto parts store should have it. Inspect its hoses and tubes and connect the hoses properly.

Google or search "DPFE", or look around here: http://www.tomco-inc.com/techinfo.aspx

Earl43P, I thank you for your response. I called the local Ford Dealer Parts today, he told me that my truck (its a 93) does not have a DPFE sensor. Instead it has a EGR Valve Position Sensor. He told me that a failure in the EVP sensor would result in the same error code as a failure in a DPFE sensor.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Yeah, I think that link has info on those too.
My 93 2.3 probably has the same as yours.
I've never looked. Only my 2000 has ever had that problem.

I changed the EGR Valve Position Sensor and so far no "Check Engine Light", it'll be a week Monday
