loud intake howl

on my 1998 4.0 ranger i have a loud
howl that seems to come from
the maf sensor. i tried it without
the air cleaner, no help. tightened
clamps, ditto. it seems to go
away at highway speed. the
noise is constant, not related
to engine speed or ground
speed.

It's probably just the radiator fan. They work overtime in hot weather

its the IAC. I had the same thing. It creates some sort of weird resonense from sticking open/closed. You might be able to clean it, but I replaced mine for like $40

the fan is not electric, so it doesn't make
much noise at idle. i will try the iac when
i find out where it is. i am a carburetor
guy. thank you.
