Hey guys, this is my first post as a new member. (And my first wrench on a 4.0 motor.)
Here's the sitrep:
Reman'd NAPA heads.
Puff of blue smoke on start-up and when coming off of extended idle.
Leak-down test OK.
Pulled valve covers & found 5 valve stem seals (some exhaust, some intake) were up at the keeper end of the stems.
Pulled springs & re-seated seals but those that were still in place seem to have a much firmer hold on the guides. (Very hard to pull them up off of the guides compared to the newly re-seated ones.
Should I be able to unseat the seals by hand?
The guides don't look to be worn smooth on the outside. They have the texture of a fairly fine cast surface.
Anyone else seen this happen?
I don't want to button her up 'till I know its right.
Any advice (except a V8 swap
) greatly appreciated.
Russ
