Loose vague steering 1994 Ranger

Hi. I just purchased a 1994 Ranger XLT. The steering is very loose and vague. What could this be or is this just the way the rangers steer?

No, that's not normal.

Have you checked for all the usual culprits? (worn parts in the steering linkage, rotted out rag joint, etc.)?
Is the truck lifted? or stock height?

It is not lifted. Everything is stock. I took it for a test drive everything worked OK and I bought it for 2000. When I get it home what components do you think I should check first?
