Looking to buy an 80's Ranger

I'm hoping for a mechanically inclined boy friend.

find one with a ranger then, preferably heavily modified.

Normally I would make a particular comment in regards to that, but I have learned recently that at my age it is considered "creepy" to ask that kind of thing about teenagers.:icon_twisted:

I built a sweet '88 super cab for my daughter. Converted from auto/electric to manual, redid the inside. That truck is a sweet driver with 4:10's on 31's and 20 mpg.
Then, someone convinced her I didn't want to give it up and convinced me she didn't want it. Consequently, I still have it. It was a great project even if it left me with a yard full of parts.
I've had my '88 Custom since 94, been through 2 engines and 1 tranny, not to mention the usual thermo, TFI and a couple of other manitenance items, not that big of a deal, still cheaper than a new truck and it runs as strong as expected with 30's and 3:73's.

I would certainly take on another project like that as it gets you to know every bolt and wire. It's too bad you are so far from the trucks that have survived rust like mine have.

Good to see someone else from the LBC on here.
I might have a line on an early 90's Ranger. Supercab, manual trans, 4 cyl. Might need some work, but not much.
I'll check with the owner. Hit me up if interested.

Cool thanks, if the two that I'm looking at don't pan out. I'll definitely hit you up.

This is what we picked out

'88 4x4 Extracab auto with the 2.9 V6.

Hehe, it says dick.

That's nice. Mines an 85 single cab, std 5 speed trans, 2wd with the 2.3 efi.

I am extremely hard on my cars. I always buy older cars and they usually don't make it past 6-8 months before I take em to the salvage yard and get back half of what I paid for them. That said, my truck is going on 18 months now. I paid $800 for it (not nearly as nice condition as yours) with about 190k on it. I was told the motor was rebuilt at about 170k but it looks pretty unlikely. And since the odometer doesn't work I have to assume that I've put about another 30k on it (I drive a lot). I haven't had any major problems with mine (besides my ecu frying today ( freak incident in sure)). But I have had to wrench on it quite a bit with a good handful of small issues. Should be a good truck. Mines been really reliable. But I don't trust it take me more than 3 hours out of town. Best of luck with her.
