I'm considering a 2011 which has the 4L V6 and I saw a video showing these can have an issue with the timing chain guides and tensioners and the video pod guy goes on to say the guides and tensioners are plastic and can break.

Is this a common problem with the 4L V6 SOHC and should I walk away from this motor? My 08 a 4L V6 but didn't have it long enough to experience a problem.

The 4.0 sohc did have some timing chain guide issues early on, but those were pretty much taken care of by 03. The hydraulic tensioners should be changed every 75k-100k but that is not expensive and not difficult. So as long as the one you are considering does not rattle at cold start, then you should be just fine.

Great, good to know.
I also found an 08 that I might be interested in.
Thanks

Second that.

Change the tensioners every 70-80k is just added maintenance. Takes half hour, you do it during an oil change.
They do have plastic chain guides, but that’s very common on motors that use a tensioner.

My brothers sohc motor is over 250k miles at this point.

I'll keep that in mind. Thank you.

Like any german engineered engine, keep the oil fresh! Wow, a 2011. I've also been watching those late models. Let us all know & see (pics) what you end up with.
