the valve that seems lonely without a sensor...what is the sensor called? I'm assuming that's the EGR valve or something related to emissions since it connects to the carbon box?

Looking for the technical term for this

The carbon box line should go under the front of the throttle body and not to the EGR valve. An '88 BII shouldn't have the EGR valve at all. The '86 & '87 have an EGR valve with a sensor and a switched vacuum line going to it, IIRC.

That is the EGR valve, it would normally have a flow (pressure) sensor attached, but since 88 wouldn't have EGR unless it was California emissions the engine was probably swapped out of something from an 86 or 87 and is just not hooked up to run.

thanks bro. after seeing that exact set up on an 87 unit I was wondering if it wasn't an older model engine. I was told when I bought it that it had a 'new' engine installed 30k miles ago, so that makes sense.

Thanks again to both of you. You have both been a lot of help and I appreciate your input.
