I don't really know much about building engines up. If a person names apart on an engine I know what it is. But I haven't done a whole lot of mechanical work. So I bought a 1990 Ranger with a 1991 Mustang 5.0 HO efi. My truck has the Mustang rear end as well. But it has four cylinder tranny in it i was told. It has been holding up pretty good no complaints. But when it comes time to put a new tranny in it what transmission would be the best for the setup.right now at 60 km or 38 miles my rpm is at around 2800 is that normal, thats not in o/d just drive. I am looking to upgrade on the engine a little just not sure what to do at this time. The engine is stock. I'm also wondering what I think I can do as an amateur to increase the horsepower a little.but even though its stock it seems a little slugish, It's a cool little truck I get a want of complements have wanted one for awhile. So if anybody has any advice for amateur I would much appreciate it. I'm a huge automotive fan just never got my hands into it much.but now i want to learn more and try some stuff on my own.

There is no way its got a 4 cylinder trans it in.

It wouldnt bolt up to the 302.

Is it Automatic, Automatic with O/D, 5sp manual or 4sp manual?

The mustang 5.0 H.O's were tuned pretty decent from the factory as it is. Your not going to get much more from them without ripping the engine apart. A supercharger i guess could help, or regearing, regearing would pry show the biggest gains without sacrificing reliabilty.

later,
Dustin

chips are good , under drive pulleys , k&n filters , jet mass upgrade, lager throttle body.
the list goes on . afr heads , cam shaft upgrade , like e303 , b303 .
