most all OBD2 cars will only show basic data and read off powertrain/emissions codes while using BASIC OBD2 software.
if you want to view specific transmission, airbag, body, transfer case, anti-theft, ect. data you have to have the manufacturer specific software. it can get expensive
i've been looking into getting a PC based scan tool (cable, software) because they are way cheaper than anything else.
about $250 for a mini laptop for go with it too, though i can use my current 17" laptop.
there are so many options out there its hard to decide, i've been looking into the ones that you can buy the cable, download the free program and you'd be able to view basic OBD2 data.. while still having the option to buy manufacturer data at a later time as needed.
scanners with this feature will list it as "bi-directional controls" meaning you can use the scanner to send commands to the modules
i was just throwing this info in here so you would know about the difference between "global" obd2 and manufacturer obd2 and would buy according to your needs.
