Looking At Buying 2000 Ranger

Ya, mine runs at 2400 or so with 31's on it and 3.73 gears. Mine can get rough in town but what 4x4 isn't? On the highway cruising it's pretty smooth though.

I went and looked at the ranger again today. It does seem pretty nice. I am pretty sure it is an e85 I didnt look at the gas lead or the vin but it had this type of thing on the tail gate. It didn't have the hybrid however.

That's the flex fuel symbol. Like 55% of all rangers are flex fuel. I haven't seen a 3.0 Ranger that wasn't flex fuel.

I would like more information on the camshaft sycrho that been mentioned. Does anyone have any good links on where to read about it?

Scroll down the V6 section. There's plenty of us that have done it. Like I said, if you aren't hearing any squeeling noises from under the hood you shouldn't have a problem with it. It sounds about like a belt squeeling.

I went and drove it again today and it now has very rough idle in park and it gets rougher when put into drive. At stop lights it feels like it wants to die but never does. However once you give it any gas it smoothes out and runs like champ. IGot it on the highway and set the cruise and it was very smooth. Any ideas? I would really like to buy this truck but this problem as turned me away.

Rough idle could be as simple as a bad IAC, I believe that's ~$55 part. It controls idle.

If you remove its electrical connector and the idle behavior doesn't change, it is bad. I've cleaned my original IAC many times and it is still working @ 105k miles. Two 8mm bolts hold it onto the intake.

I think that price is a tad high; use the idle "problem" to get it for less $$.

Here's a link for cam synchro replacement:

RangerPowerSports.com has some good info on it (stickied, if I remember correctly), but is down at the moment.

it sounds like the iac , as earl said , use that as an upper hand to get it for less money , then take it off and soak it in carb cleaner
