longest road trip

1. how far you drove, with how many pit stops
Day one 300 miles, 0 pit stops.
Day two 300 miles back. 1 pit stop.

2. gas milage
21+

3. average speed
65-70

4. what year and engine you had at the time
2002 3.0L

about 1000 miles, 3 stops for gas. I really don't like to let my tank get below 1/4 while on a trip, just in case something happens.

Unkown MPG.

Avg. Speed of 81mph.

2001 supercab. 31" 3.73 gears and a 3.0 auto.

1. how far you drove, with how many pit stops
A. 1,000+ miles in one day from 5:00am to after 9:00pm. Stopped only for fuel every 375miles (about 15gallons with 5gallons left in the tank), food, or sleep.

2. gas milage
A. Depends on terrain and speed. Average was about 24~25mpg through the smoother part of the country (65mph). 20mpg the worst when speeding through rolling hills (75mph). 23mpg going through the mountains at a reduced speed in 4th gear (60~65mph). RPM's were in the range of 2,200~3,000. 2,500 rpm's mostly at 65mph in 5th. 3,000's rpm's at 60mph in 4th.

3. avarage speed
A. Average speed according to the GPS was about 65mph, give or take 2~3mph for stops.

4. what year and engine you had at the time
A. 96 Ranger XLT super cab, 2.3L with 5spd manaul.

I just filled in the quote for the answers.

Lawrenceburg, IN to Columbus, OH which is about 150 miles one way with one stop to use restroom each way and one for gas. Mileage was about 25 mpg or so doing about 65 to 70 mph. 2008 2.3L 5 speed extended cab with a tonneau cover over the bed.

ok guys whats the longest time you have driven your truck strait? looking for some info for a future road trip, what rpm does the 2.9 like to be at....and what speed does that translate into? then post info on your trip:

1. how far you drove, with how many pit stops

2. gas milage

3. avarage speed

Drove my 89 2.9 from slc to seattle in one day ( roughly 900 miles). this was on 33's with 4.56 gears. engine was at roughly 3000 rpms most of the way. I don't like running it much harder than that. peak torque is 2600 I think, so that will probably be ideal for gas mileage, butmay not give you the speed you want.

With as much lift as i have 19 mpg is about the best I can get anymore. (17 - 18) when it had the auto, its a 5 spd now.)

ave speed: 75-80

any of you guys know what rpm would be best for a 2.9? id rather drive a little slower and keep my engine happy...just not sure what rpm she likes....

Between 2500-2900 RPM.

I've driven my BII a few times from So. Calif to Oregon (about 850 miles) and back.

Stopped once for fuel along the way (one time i had to stop twice due to battling a headwind).

Mileage was around 22 MPG (18.5 with the headwind) doing 60 MPH.

1990 BII 2.9L 5-speed stick 35x12.50 tires, 5.13 gears, 23 gallon tank.

Holy crap that is awsome milage for that set up, Then again thats what happens when you get the right gears and tires to go with the motor and trans set up :icon_thumby:

Seattle, WA to Brunswick, ME.

Avg speed - 70

Stops - every 250 miles.

Avg mpg - 17

equipment - '88 supercab with a 2.9 and 4x4

awsome thanks for all the info guys... now i can try to calculate fuel miles and stops... got a question though, in the tech library one of the calculators you can use show tire size and actual speed... so the stock tire is 25.5 inches... if i got a bigger tire (meaning taller) i can cuise at a higher speed with lower rpms, right?

450 Miles. 2 pit stops. One for gas, and the other to change out the alternator and battery that left me stranded just off the interstate.

2. 21mpg

3. 75 the first half, and 88mph (pegged thespeed gov) the second half becuase the alternator put me behind schehdule.

4. 2000 3.Slow

Yes, you're correct. Bigger tire = lower RPM. It also means more rotating mass.

Biloxi,Mississippi to Mesa, Arizona

1. I drive a 2000 mile almost straight shot on Interstate 10 while moving. I stopped to sleep in San Antonio, TX and Las Cruces, NM
2. I didnt keep track as well as I could have but I didnt get great gas milage, maybe because I was pulling a trailer.
3. I averaged 60 of of the cities. In texas speed limit was 80 in the rurals but my 4 banger with a trailer wasnt gonna do that:icon_rofl:
4. March 2009, I had the same engine I have now:icon_thumby:. 4 banger 2.5 with the auto tranny

I've taken my 97 reg cab, 5sd to Southernmost MS, the ocean.... lol.
bout 14 hrs i think..... 26 mpg, laid across truck and slept at truck stop.

taken 88 reg cab, bout 6 hrs, was just stupid loud, 16mpg.

04 4.0 4x4 5spd. from Houston to home, 22mpg, ext cab....ran like a dream, fun trip had cruise. quite cab noise, was a very pleasant trip in a very nice low mileage truck.

Frank

Next time you visit the MSGC you need to go during Cruisin' the coast

1. Last summer, Pittsburgh, PA to my dad's house in Ft. Myers, FL, roughly 1200 miles, took about 22 hours IIRC. 5 pit stops, 4 for gas, did take time for a sit-down breakfast since we were tired but by then we were almost there. Slower than I like but I had the whole family with me and they're not hard-core like I can be. As far as is known, I am a co-owner of my college's Spring Break speed record from Beaver Falls, PA to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 18.5 hours back in 1982 when I could throw a football a quarter-mile.

2. Averaged 18 mpg. Pretty loaded with four people and our stuff. With the Gibson exhaust and K&N I'll get about 22 mpg if I keep it under 70 but we drove straight through and didn't exactly keep the speed down with the Valentine ONE radar detector on.

3. Dunno, didn't calculate speed. It is what it is. Had the cruise on 75 mph most of the time until we hit I-4 and I-75 in the middle of the night. Nobody was around so we ran 80 mph.

4. 2008 Sport Trac, 4.0 SOHC. FWIW, 3.73 gears and 245/65-17 tires.

Took the Auto Train home, it shaves about 900 miles off the trip. I highly recommend it.
