Someone correct if i'm wrong. I am getting that the pre '88 beams are the ones to cut up.using the spindle c mount and fab the rest of the beam. Is this the right one to modify? I've got :icon_welder:the long radius arms. How's 4" over sound, equal length. I'll have to use coils for a while. maybe a long while, change the buckets - maybe the old bronco spring buckets?
 
alot of people use the d35/d44 beam c cut it 3 inches back and fab the rest
 
I'm New to this, I assume you are talking about the fwd off a ranger? For what the boneyards would want for a front housing, does anyone fab the ends? You say cut them back about 3 inches from the bolt/radius hole? Thanks for the help
 
its about 3 inches on the driver side beam its just before it gets big for the diff take that distance and transfer it to the other side
 
I'm still looking into this idea of mine for a project, so I haven't done all of my research, but if I use a d35 beam end, will I need to use a 4wd knuckle as well? Or will a 2wd knuckle mount up to the 4wd balljoints/ beam end?
(I'm looking to build my own beams for a 2wd, but I highly doubt I can cut/ weld the stock cast beams)

yes you will need the 4x4 knuckle that goes with that end...and no you can not cut, extend, or weld on the 89+ 2wd cast beams. I have only seen one person try and it broke in two right in front of me lol.

or d44 beam ends [bigger wheel bearings , brakes]
 
so you run the d44 4wd end, spindle and hub assembly, remove lock hub guts and cap hole? what year are the d44 in? are pre 88 axles useable? thanks
 
I'm kinda curious is something could be machined to cap the end of the hub/ bearings, so you don't have the locking hub sticking out (I have access to CNC machines, but I don't how much I could use them for).
I suppose a gutted hub casing would work, but whats the fun in that :D???

I'm kinda thinking the D44 would be a much better option! Then I would have to get wheel adapters for the rear, but that would also space the rears out an inch or 2 per side! (Yes, I know they can be unsafe)

What would keep me from using, and modifying a set of pre-'89 2wd beams? I think I read that the brakes weren't as good on those, but could a '89-97 knuckle be put on those beams?
