Looking at possibly getting into a late model 4wx4 Ranger. How can I tell if it has a locking rear diff vs an open diff?

I know the 83-11 Rangers the door sticker axle code indicated if it had limited slip or not and the F-series trucks used a similar coding. If it was 2 numbers, it was an open rear (83, 91, etc). If it was a letter and a number, it was a limited slip (D4, R4, etc). I’d imagine there’s a similar code for the newer ones.

Also, as far as I know, Ford uses electric locking differentials, and I know the F-series the rear locker is activated by pulling out on the 4x4 knob, which will also have a little stick diagram of the wheels/axles/driveshafts on it, non-locking usually doesn’t have the diagram. I’d guess the Ranger would be similar.

If there is a diff lock button on the console.
A locking diff was included on the FX2 and FX4 packages, optional on others.
