Lockers on Snowy roads

I love my Lockrite. Just drove through 500 miles of snow covered roads, some packed, some where I was the first track. The rear end was predictable and controlled. Also a lot of fun when you decide to play and do a little drifting.

I'll definitely agree that predictability is safety. Haven't had any real snow with my locker but on the really wet roads it is predicable. 4x4 should take care of the rest. I feel like there's more stopping potential from downshifting with a locker, because of both tires getting that force.

I've never owned a vehicle with a locker, my jeep had limited slip front/rear, bronco 2 has open front/rear, truck has limited slip rear. I've never felt the need to have lockers, or limited slip for anything I do. Not saying there's no need period, but some people buy these traction devices to compensate for the lack of driving skills LOL. The majority of people I see stuck in snow and offroad are people with lifted 4WD's, while the person driving the little front wheel drive Ford Festiva is driving all over the place with no problems at all.

I had once occasion that I drove a Chevy Blazer with the Detroit lockers in it, and it was very squirrely in snow, but that was also the first time I'd driven it, and didn't have a clue it had lockers in it until the 360 I did in the middle of a 2 lane road LOL. After that I realized what the issue was and was very light on the accelerator after that and never once had a problem with it ever again. I still miss that Blazer.

I rather like my welder rear in the snow way more predictable than the LSD that left my on my side in a ditch. I wouldn't recommend an LS to anyone 20MPH off throttle it locked up on my and put me into a slide I was unable to turn out of. A curb and 40 feet later I was laying sideways. Never had any kind of issue like that with the welded rear. Turn into the skid off the throttle and yes it drifts, but I know were it is going. O/O on my Jeep never had any issues with it in the snow, but I also have a good set of tires on it.
