Locked keys in truck :o

This topic has been repeated several times on our site. I always have a spare key in my wallet for whichever vehicle I am taking that day. This happened to me many years ago and to this day I have a key in my wallet. It will not start the truck or the Jeeps.....it will just open the door.

This is a must have item, guys!!!!!

I have a lock smith kit I bought at a flea market brand new I keep in the garage. Besides that I always have a spare with me, plus I have roadside assistance through my car insurence and my wife always gives a spare to her mom. So we never have an issue getting in.

As for hepto we all know of other ways to get into rangers we just arn't stupid enough to advertise so just relax. Why do you think threads that have instructions on how to do that always end up closed and the info delelted.

^^What he said...plus I ave the noisiest alarm system around. Whenever we go somewhere where we have to leave the truck for a few hours or so, I use it. If somebody bumps my truck, it goes off. So...if somebody tried to pull on a door handle or tried to open my sliding rear window the alarm will go off as soon as they touched it. I can adjust the sensitivity of the alarm as well. But...guys...if somebody wants to get into your tuck they are going to do it anyways. Just don't leave anything in view so a crook can see it!!!

That's the Rule of a lifetime!!!!

I just know someone that's really good at breaking into vehicles.. :|

But then again, my car would probably be ruined if you tried to do any of these things. I'd rather not risk it to save $100

I know I know...and the spare is under the drivers seat. dont ask why.

Anyways this is actually my dads truck but nonetheless its a 2003 XL with manual locks and windows, so before I pay the money to have it unlocked is there any way I can jam a coat hangar in there and unlock it...or any method you guys would suggest?

Thanks, Kyler

i love living in a small town where locked doors arent needed, even if theres a hundred dollar bill left on the seat!

1. pry the top right corner of the door open a bit with a something that won't do damage (the door won't permanently bend out, it will go back)
2. work a small wedge in there
3. then you'll have enough room to hook the lock with the hanger and open it

yes, we know of the surefire way to get into the truck without spending any money, and yet we're telling him to call a locksmith or buy a slimjim.

regardless, i PM'd him the directions for the 'trick' and he replied so he must have gotten into his truck.

i can understand why you might not want that information to be public, but it already is, and acting like that trick doesn't exist when somebody could, you know, legitimately use it, is foolish.

My ranger has recessed locks, you have to pull the handle a good 2-3 inches out to get it to unlock.

Assuming his is the same, this will NOT work.

it works great on my company chevy though :icon_thumby:

It may be public but we don't have to advertise it on the first forum that comes up when someone puts "ranger" into Google. The idea is to make it slightly difficult so the people dumb enough to steal a truck don't bother, and the smarter ones will get the info :icon_thumby:

I can pick my truck's door lock and ignition in under 30 seconds without causing any damage what-so-ever.

There's a million and a half easy ways to get into these trucks, but I do not agree with posting them on here, especially outside of the tailgate.

My Ranger wouldn't be a problem at all.. My DD is 5 years old and not gonna be quite as simple.

My god....rangers are the worlds EASIEST truck to slim jim!! You could've had it open with a coat hanger faster than it took you to write this post. lol.

i doubt theres criminals trolling around on enthusist web pages looking for hints on how to open a unlocked door.

If you need hints for how to open an unlocked door, please step away from the vehicle.

Well I know the "secret" has been posted before. I think the true answer is to have a spare key in your billfold. Week and a half ago, lock my doors, keys on the seat. 200 miles from home in a town of 200 late on a Friday night. Ended up being able to open the sliding window of the cap, tried kicking out the slider into the cab. Ended up being able to get the jack out and just break the rear quarter window with it Felt more than a little stupid - again.
