i really dont see how you're getting .080 extra shims pus the cluthes in there. there just isnt enough room. the reaon it chattering is cause you have it too tight. if you havent already, you will begin breaking tabs off the clutches and you will have the baddest one wheeler around
the way I read it is that it chatters after he did the work. if you re-arrange the clutches, depending on how you do it, there could be enough room for that much shims. I actually took the shim closest to the middle out and stuffed an extra friction disk and splined disk in addition to what was there before.
I got my clutches all used, so I have about $20 into it. if it really gets on my nerves I'll just switch to a Detroit Trutrac or something. Since my truck is currently open (7.5" going to an 8.8 L/S) I'm looking forward to an L/S, the open is just annoying. My truck is also predominantly pavement, so a spool is out of the question, and I need a little extra traction on the asphalt, switching back and forth on the locker would be a pain in the ass.
But to reply to the original question, it'll help. but it's not the best option for an offroad rig. if you can get one cheap, run it. otherwise, spool it (offroad only) or spend your money toward a selectable locker.
