ill start with a little background
my truck is an 85 ranger xl,
4speed,
manual t case,
4 inch skyjacker lift, with 31 inch goodyear wranglerAT's(discontinued i think)
soon to get 2 door explorer rear leafs



ok, so i finally decided to post up a build thread, since im about to do the top end on my 2.8, i hope it goes smoothley since i have 2 weeks to do it
then ill have my liscince and no truck, so i hope she works out
so ill start at the begining

this was a while after i got her, i took the bed off to do the rear breaks, to make life allot easier
(sorry if its a big pic, i cant figure out how to downsize)

so thats it so far, im just trying to get it done by the 27th, when i get my liscince and make it rin as good as new!

Carbs off, valve covers and intake manifold to come,
jim, do you still need pics of a 2.8?
 
FWIW, 2.8Ls have solid lifters and need adjustment every 40K or so miles. Just curious on why the top end rebuild?

Suprised you pulled bed to do rear brakes, but sometimes those drums can be stubbon as shit. Looks like our Rangers are suffering from the same types of cancer :) (rear wheel wells).

Keeping the ignition and carb stock?

ya, dads call on takeing the bed off, i thought it was dumb too but whaterer

and the top end is becaise it needs valve stem seals, and its just eaiser to do with the heads off, and yet anothe dad call(i just go with it anymore)
and unless anyone wants to send me a diffrent carb setup, na its staying stock for now

im thing mabe a weber later once i can find it again(lmc doesnt have it in the catilog, and i cant afford it, so im not gonna call)

update: valve covers, and thermostat neck are off, and also if anyone knows, the round thing between the carb and thermostat housing? its off , just wondering what it is

o and did i mention im also doing timeing gears
 
i like those tie downs on the side if you where to get rid of them ill pay for them
 
if i find a new bed withought the holes, ill gladly sell em to you
but if i stick with the bed on there im gonna keep em to tie my quad, motorcycle, and ther random crap down and secure

or if you just wanna trade trucks, that could be arranged.......

I just got a new lmc truck magazine and it had weber carbs for the 2.8
 
mabe i wasnt looking hard enough, ill find one eventually, and probably a set of headders

update: it rained like hell last night, so i slept in, till like 2:39 haha, and im picking up a go-kart today for a quick re-build and sell to put a couple more bucks into the ranger
