I was thinking about getting a lightweight flywheel for my 2.3L Ranger. Is it a good idea or not? I had a lightweight flywheel on a 2wd Yota a few years ago and loved it. I just don't know if it's the right thing for a 2.3L. I've been shopping around and have found them in 6lb, 8lb, 10lb and 12lb. Which one would be best? Is ther a certain brand/manufacturer I should buy? I would also like to keep the stock clutch. I know alot of mini stocks run lightweight flywheels but I will be DDing this truck so I need to keep it reasonable. I don't tow with it nor do I haul anything with it. Also one other question. What is a safe RPM limit for a 2.3L with stock internals?

10,000 RPM,S sells a nice flywheel that has a steel insert where the clutch runs.We have used that one. Some others out there but get costly. You can use a flywheel and clutch setup from a ford escort, they work good, knock off about 13 lbs.You can turn your motor between 65-7300 with stock internal,it will take some external mods to get that rpm but the bottom will handle it.We have a couple guys at the track that run 7000 every weekend.we ran our 94 ranger with a chip 6700

Thanks for the info. Is there a certain year/motor that I need to look for to use the Escort setup? If I use just the flywheel will my clutch and starter that I have now work with it?

I,m pretty sure it was a 89-92 1.9 escort.Go to www.4m.net and look in the 4 cyl.tech forum.Might have to do a search there.Have to use the small clutch disc for a ranger or ford granada but your starter will work fine.

Thanks for the link. I love the forum over there at 4m.net. Alot of info! Now I can get all the info I need to get my sleeper/DD/grandpa looking Ranger to dust the Hondas at the strip. Ricers hate it when the get beat by a Domestic and they hate it even worse when it's a truck!!!
