lights better on roll bar or brushguard?

been thinking of rigging up some offroad lights on my ranger and i was wonder where they would give me the best lighting. So whats it gona be on a brushguard or a dummy rollbar?

most ppl say the brush guard is better. the roof gets in the way if you put it on the roll bar... i have one facing backwards for when i'm crawling rocks at nite and wanna back up... it helps alot when loading the bed with stuff. or whatever.

yea ive herd most people liking the lights on the brushguard rather than the roll bar or anything mounted overhead for that matter. so i guess when i get a brushguard ill put on some hella 550's and then mount two hella fogs for the wider view. im also thinking of wiring in some cheap fogs on my rear bumper for reverse at night. Then i wana wire two (one on each side) fog lights on a bed box so i can have perimeter lighting. lots of lights haha

Brushguard.

I have found that lights over head (at least inexpensive ones ,sub $200 a pair, like most people use) have some or sometimes alot of glare off the windshield when used. The farther back they are mounted on the roof, the worse it is. So if you do mount them overhead, make sure they are as far forward as possible.

This is one of the ways I actually detect a poser 4x4 in my area, I ask guys with lights behind the cab on a rollbar how they work at night, and if they answer great, they are probably full of it.

ya i have a roof mounted light bar on my truck not a roll bar but a light bar ever says that i should mount it as far back as possible but i have it a lil towards the front from the middle of the cab and it works not to bad but ill admit there is alot of glare on the windshield and hood but when ur in a DARK area they work just like high beams. but ya i would mount some on ur brushbar thats what im doin when i get mine on.

im rpob goin to make a custom light bar to go across the bed and just mount 2 light there for backing up at night offroading or just extra lighting for loading stuff up

I like them both ways....that way you can aim some on top off to the sides.....the front go farther out and doesn't put a slight glare on the windshield....

The other problem with overhead lights, they don't show the detail of the road as well (can't see the shadows from road imperfections).

Definitely put them on the brushguard.

I had lights on top of my cab and loved it. I only took them off because I decided a square tubing light bar looked funny. I drive a lot a night and there are a lot of deer where I come from. There are many a tmes when I flipped the overhead lights on and could see twice as much as with my regular high beams. I would lamost always have a convoy utlizing my lights. The only issue I had was it coming into the cab from the rear window. I never had any glare on the windshield but I had a light bar behind the cab. Although I have never had brush gaurd lights soo. Just my 2 cents.

I am going to put the ones that were on by grille guard on my rollbar. I figure being that they are pretty much spotlights they should work well for shining down in gravel road ditches for deer when there is no traffic around.

Otherwise I have a set on the front of each of my trucks and they work great as far as driving lights go, they probably at least double the range of my normal headlights.

ya thats what i love about my roof lights you can aim them what ever way u want no im good lol im goin to keep them mjones , they dont always show what u wnat on the road they more or less just brighten everything up with show what u reli need to see but once again they look cool i think and in dark palces they work amazing

I like them in both positions (bumper and fake roll bar) . on my toyota......I got on of those thule roof rack bars that mount (twisty clamp) no - welding - cutting - screwing or even drilling through my cab for any reason. it worked well and you can slide it as far forward as you want. i drilled 2 holes in the bar to mount my fake k-c's. i have since rolled that toyota twice and squashed that bar pretty good. the other bar that went with it.........i pulled out of my garage......drilled holes in it as i did on the other and put on my 88 ranger. looks pretty cool for a low budget solution when i went to arizona in 98 .....there was no room in my bed for the spare 36.......so i used both bars on top and strapped my spare to it . send me a pm with your email adress and ill send you a pic of the yota. i wasnt successful with photobucket.........someone else can post it for me .

ya i have a brush bar that i was goin to put on my truck but i decide not to cuz i have to make custom mounting brackets to put it on so im leaving the lights on my roof light bar but if your getting a roof light bar put it to the front of the roof as possible cuz then you will get less glare, im also goin to put to big lights on my front bumper .
