from 82 to 97 4x4 Rangers use the Twin Traction Bar (TTB) setup, from 82 to 97 4x2 Rangers use the Twin I-beam setup (TIB). The two setups are set up the exact same, except the 4x4 has a stamped steal beams with the diff bolted on and axle shafts going to 4x4 hubs/spindles. The reason a 4x4 sits 2 inches higher than a 4x2 is that a 4x4 has different spindles not because it has taller coils. And the shocks are the same. (within a 1/2 inch).
4x2 Coils and shocks will work on a 4x4. Stock 4x2 coils are actaully a 1/4 ich taller than the 4x4. I think the radius arm drop brackets may interchange as well. You will have to get 4x4 axle pivot brackets though, because the 4x2 and 4x4 have a different crossmember under the motor.
The rear suspension is the exact same, except a 4x4 come with a factory 2 ich block to level the truck since the 4x4 spindles are taller in the front.
After 97, there as no chance of making a 4x2 lift work for your 4x4.
