lift pros and cons

I thought about the route i would have taken if I didn't SAS my 00.

For the 98+ rangers I would:

3" body lift
Keep the 2.5" block in the rear and throw in extended shackles
Replace the torsion bars with a softer spring rate
Crank the hell out of the new torsion bars
Replace the front hubs with manual lock outs
Weld the front diff, or spool it
LSD or Lunch box the rear
Molly shafts
Trim fenders
Run 35s to 37s with the expectation to brake shit. Often.

OR:

Use upper and lower control arms, knuckles, everything, from a 1 ton IFS. Build brackets to make everything work, and run air shocks.

Nice thing about the S10s is you can bolt up shit from the full size trucks with very little modification. And they make spindle lifts for the 4wd.

i just did the 2" body lift on my '83 and it will handle 31" tires which is as big as i will go on it. i got the Summit web site and bought the PA kit. as mine is so old, i also got the poly body mounts an replaced all the old rubber mounts at the same time. money well spent. handles nice, rides nice, looks nice.

I plan on doing the same with my 88 ranger. How hard was it to remove the old body mount bolts? I heard they can be a monster to remove. :dunno:

i would check on craigs list too, ive seen suspension and body lifts on there check there for some used rims and tires that will look good with your lift too.
I found my suspension lift for 200 its: upper a-arms and the new coils springs 2.5" lift and for the back im just leaving it stock but i could easily get some shackles or blocks add a leaf etc.

i went with suspension lift because i dont like the idea of my body sitting 2-3 inches off my frame on little nylon plastic blocks. though my main reason was that i hate the ride of the factory suspension on rangers.

im on craigslist everyday looking and all i find is the actual truck no parts no nothing, people just want to much for stuff i see i want but i did find a toolbox that was in great condition for $100 and had the keys too

well craigslist has come through i found one and got the guy down to 150 but im gona go look before i buy to make sure its what i want and im more than likely gona keep the tire i have on there now but i doubt i would get around to installing it soon anyway

It's also a MN thing. A buddy of mine while we were in HS did it to his truck and it was fine and they have lasted to the last 10 years.

I have an 07 ranger, i had a 3" body lift installed, and put 35 x 12.5 on 15" wheels, with a t-bar crack, i have no rubbing, it looks great and rides great

I think as well that the ride is a bit stiff, I just thought it was me that had that opinion. I have a 2000 xlt extended cab off road 4x4.
