Lift Laws

Need... Canadian... Info... I found our motor vehicle act and all it says is that all lifted vehicles must be modified within compliance. That would be fantastic if they told anyone what you had to comply to!

yeah, good site, thanks for the post....i didnt bookmark mine, b/c apparently, in north carolina, as long as i dont drive a tank and i have an exhaust system, i can do whatever i want

Hell, I thought Arkansas was liberal with the fog light laws. According to that link, there are NO laws concerning fog lights in Ohio. LOL

But does your bumper have to cover the width of your tires???

I'm sure by law yes but again unless you get a extremly board officer from on of those really small town wanting to pick at you. But as long as you have tailights, headlights, turn signals, plates, front plate, plate lights, and current insurence, license, and registation. An you not driving a souped up Honda Law inforcement will leave you alone.

If you dig deeper in that site, they bring up a very good point, Insurance and whether your policy covers the mods that you have made. Meaning, that if you have an accident and it's your fault, the insurance company finds out that you've made mods that they don't support, they can deny you coverage, even collision coverage. LINK

I didn't intend to imply that this site was a be all end all on state and local laws, it's intended to help us consider things that we may not have thought of regarding building our vehicles. For instance, I didn't know that NaWZ is illegal in Arkansas. If I were considering using NaWZ, I would read more in depth as to exactly how the law reads.

I was also unaware of the 30" fog light in Arkansas. Mine is exactly 30" from the top of the light, their measurements are to the center of the light. I have a little more room to go.

Be sure to check with your actual state office, in a court case that website won't save you... If you are able to list a specific law, then you still might have a chance...

i bookmarked it for sure. travel a fair amount and nice to know the basics of the states i pass through. i've found that good common sense and a reasonable disclaimer are enough for me.

Some states can't even ticket you for lift law infractions if your vehicle isn't registered to said state. But what states do that? The laws are (for a lack of a better word) a cluster#$!%. Most are simply an interpretation by said specific cop. I would go by LiftLaws.com's info as a guideline because they reference their sources to the actual "code" of the law. If you don't trust Liftlaws.com, just find the law's code as stated on their website and read it for yourself by looking it up on your state's website. If you can't find it on your state's website? I honestly don't know.
