Lets see your bumpers

2007.

What ever happened to pimtool?

I’ve just finished building this... it’s a pretty cheap to build, basic bumper which was born out of the fact that the stock one had several fist sized rust holes in it and was probably close to falling off anyway!
It’s two 1.5x1.5” square section bits of steel at around 60” a piece, joined with some 1” square section and a 1/16 plate bolted over the top to mount the license plate and light. It’s entirely functional and arguably not that pretty but it’s strong, durable and it should take a beating without too much fuss. I butchered the old bumper mount so I could use the chassis mounts, it worked well.
When I was looking for something along these lines there didn’t seem to be much inspiration out there. So here’s some for anyone else thinking of sorting out a bumper replacement. If you want any more info let me know. Probably cost me less than $75 to build.

Heres my bumper its way way way over kill. 7" angle iron thats nealy 1/2 thick. The pull points I think are 5/8th steel and are bolted right to the frame with 5/8th bolts. i had a faultly winch that wouldnt stop pulling in and it snapped the cable before the bumper bent. Anyways its getting taken off since i bought myself a tube bender.

I have a question about winch bumpers that might be a little random. Does anyone know exactly how much an affordable offroad bumper and winch add to the front end (front axle) of a ranger? I can figure out the weight of the new bumper and winch, but has anyone ever weighed their truck before and after? The reason I'm asking is my Ranger has a 4bt in it. I have weighed my truck and it's right at the Gross Axle rating for the front right now. I'd love to have a nice bumper and winch but I don't know if I want the extra weight hanging off the front of an already heavy front end. And I tried to search around but couldn't find anything that satisfied my question.

I just completed my rear bumper after being hit twice . My truck is a survivor..no other damage. Just need a paint job soon , gloss black.

Front and rear bumper made out of scrap metal I had in the garage to test my new ARC welder. Though I have been MIG welding about 20 years, I never really ARC welded. I got most of the kinks worked out by the time I got to the front bumper, by ditching the Northern Tool magnet clamp and getting a Hobart spring clamp instead.

Front bumper held up to about pulling 8k pounds out of mud up a hill with the HF 5k winch, and the rear bumper held the 4K tandem axle trailer just fine. Though I might support the rear plate holding the ball with some vertical angle bracing to avoid bending it since it is only 3/16" angle welded to each other and mostly only bolted on.

It's been a while since I have seen this type of bumper.

My neighbors frequently see these type of bumpers, as I buy surplus steel and pallet racks from auctions

Sometimes I spend more on the grade 8 x 1/2" attaching bolts then I do the steel itself

I felt like I was having a stroke trying to read that...
