My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
Somebody gives you a Free 1992 Suzuki Samauri with no engine or transmission/transfercase......

You can only build it with Ford Ranger parts or parts commonly associated with a Ford Ranger SAS or lift or......

what do you build

Keep it simple and use recent parts that will be available for years. 2.3 duratec with a Mazda 5 speed. Where's the front axle diff on a samurai axle? If it's drivers side, dig around for a 1354 manual shift.

A scrap pile?

Yeah I was thinking Duratec, Mazda 5spd, D30 (since it’s commonly used in Ranger SAS) and Explorer 8.8. I believe Samauris are passenger side drop

Yes, Samis are passenger side diff in the front.

Have you seen Disciple's new wheeler build? Maybe easier to just do something like that. Throw the body on a B2 chassis or something. I mean this is in the planning stage and it is already 90% RBV parts.

that could be a possibility..... could be I also trade it for motorcycle parts. I go pick it up tomorrow after work.

sami is a good light chassis. d30-7.5 are light very available and cheap, if you stay under 36 in tires and non turbo power strength should be good....

good way to go unless you miraculously find some cheap toy axles.

Build a Ford Pygmy. Stick to Ford Parts. Ford 7.5 rear and either a D28 or D35 front. Keep it to a 31 inch tire. As light as it would be, you shouldn't have any axle issues. Light and fun. Make it believable. Give it a back story.

Try to remove everything that suggests it was once a Suzuki. Put a Ford script on it.

I have wanted a Ford Jeep ever since I found out Ford built one......

Samis and trackers are amazingly capable. Should be fun to experiment with. My buddy has a tracker. He did some simple things that allowed him to put 31's on it. Then he painted the outside tan. But it's still pink on the inside.

That isn’t a ford built Jeep, it is the Ford sample that competed against the Jeep.

I agree a modern 2.3 but id just keep the damn I axlea ans upgrade them vs putting the stuff in.

Hmm. I'd sell it and buy an Explorer. That Samurai may be capable, but their track is too narrow for their own good. Besides, the Explorer has FAR more cargo space, wider track (stability), longer wheelbase (better ride). And, I'd be willing to bet that the Explorer would be more comfortable.

Maybe your own Ford concept vehicle?

So what's the plan?
