let the magic smoke out

I hooked up some wires up wrong on my 88b2. Circut one that runs hazards and brake light, the wires melted. Smoke came out of the fuse box and stearing wheel. The back of the fuse block on that circut is melted a little bit as well. I feel that I am lucky the truck did not catch fire.
I am going to replace the whole harness. I have the choice of a 87 reg cab or an 87 ex cab ranger for the wireing harness. Which one shall I choose from to make this work?l
