Left front brake smoking...

:bawling: Going home from work the other day I noticed when pulling away from the stoplight that my truck didn't seem to to have that zip (lol) and not wanting to shift like it should, its an automatic. And that's the first thing that came to my mind, 'oh no, not the trans', and then I notice that it was pulling to the left, dang not a flat tire, so I roll down the window and stick my head out, hmmm...tires are ok....pull into a quicky mart and the left front brakes are smoking. I let it cool off for about 30 minutes and drove her home paying attention not to hit the brakes too hard. Yesterday I replaced the calipers, brake pads, greased the wheel bearing (after close inspection), and today all I have to do is bleed the brakes, hopefully everything will go as should. After doing the search on this site I noticed that this is not all that uncommon with these Rangers, anyway total cost so far is under 70 bucks, wish me luck....

you gotta love the inexpensive parts for the older rangers :icon_thumby: I would give the rubber hoses the once over and make sure they are OK....you might want to consider swapping out the wheel cylinders also because of the age of the truck.......it is always good to go the extra mile when your brakes are concerned
 
Thanks, I did check the hoses very close after reading some of the previous forums, at this time I elected not to replace them, hopefully it won't come back to bite me later...
 
yep....if it gives you trouble again.....remove the piston from the caliper...clean it and the hole it fits in with an SOS scrubbing pad to get all the crud off...wipe clean...recoat it brake fluid & put everything back together...bleed caliper.
