Laptop... looking for some opinons...

oh yea, Mac's can also run Windows.......they will run Windows better than a PC will run Windows....

You can't put PC's down because Dell / HP / whoever / builds (mostly) crap PC's.
I've built every PC I've owned since 98 or so... and I guarantee they would rival a Mac in terms of reliability and speed. The one I'm on now I built four years ago, and it still runs like a champ. It's ran 24 / 7 more or less the whole time, and I restart it *maybe* every couple of months... Usually just when I install something. No bsod's, no freezing, no slow downs, none of the inherent so-called Windows problems. It's much more upgradeable than a Mac, I don't have to use proprietary components, and all for 1/2 the price of a comparable Mac.
I don't have anything against Macs... Just the "Mac snobbery" that seems to surround them.

LBR; Good luck... I really haven't much advice for laptops. I've heard good things about Toshiba and Acer though. My work laptop is an IBM and it's had the shit beat out of it and keeps on ticking.

Hey mjones since you keep touting mac's how about posting up some price comparisons.

As for Vista...

I bought this laptop, ASUS G Series G1S-B2, which is Vista equipped a month ago. I must confess I bought it when there was an additional rebate and got it for $1500. While I agree with you that Vista is a resource hog, since I reformatted it to remove the bloatware shipped on it it's been running like a champ. I still have an XP desktop and once I can afford a few upgrades it'll be my primary PC again, but since I will be traveling this year and am hoping to start back in school I needed something portable. This laptop and my desktop already are running the GeForce 8600, and before the reformat on Vista they were running about the same, currently I expect this laptop to be running better though. I just need to upgrade the processor, motherboard and memory in my desktop as well as pick up a couple new disk drives.

FWIW I won't be using much Microsoft software inside their operating system, I plan to run OpenOffice for my office suite, and am already using Firefox and Thunderbird. I still got a little trimming to do on the system but when I get dome I think Vista will be running pretty lean and mean (for what it is anyway).
