Language pet peeves- list yours too

When I was in 6th grade, I took a series of tests which determined that I could read and write at a 12th grade level. I was stunned, and it was something that I'll never forget. Even at age 12, I remember thinking that those test results weren't a testament of how good I was at reading and writing, rather how bad everyone else must be. I'm 32 now, and every day I get a reminder of just how right I was back then.

I'm sorry if my English is so bad. My spelling is nothing to be prized about since I barely passed all 12 grades with D's & C's. But I see my world around me differently than other folks. It is probably due to being able to actually turn wrenches and fix things that other people can't or try not to understand. BUT, I do try my best. So suck it up and deal with it, because I don't use spell check on the TRS. :thefinger:

Cummings Diesel, Chevy Camero

lets add: elemant,(element) diesal, torshen, torshion instead of torsion(yeah, i've seen it)
your instead of you're and viceversa.

common guys, even I know how to spell :annoyed:

i forgot to mention the thread that the guy titled, "Accedent Pics"

It's funny how the times change. I still see how a lot of the people I went to school with spell poorly and use poor grammar via Facebook. I graduated in 1993 with most of them and they still have issues. The sad thing is that these guys are now teaching their kids to be partially retarded too. If your parents don't care, why should you?

We actually got my daughter into a charter school because it was obvious that she would be bored in the regular public schools. She is in Kindergarten and has been going for a little over 2 months now. The other night my wife was reading her a story, and she asks my wife "Mom, is this story narrative or informative?". That brought a big smile to my face. :D

My pet peave is the word 'normal'. There is no 'normal', theres 'typical', theres 'about best for the situation', but 'normal' is an arrogant, pushy word. Its meaningless, it means what ever the most powerful in our world tell us it means. And they use it to their own benefit to get us to live in a way that best suits them and their profits. And if you question too much, they'll convince other people that you're insane and then the labeling starts, like 'conspiracy theorist', etc. Anything to leave you down and keep them up.

Also, 'education', which is a very general term, but alot of people seem to think it means 'schooling'. There are countless means of education and schooling is often not a very good one.

How about 'need' and 'want'. We are so quick to use the word 'need', but do we really need everything we claim we do?

Just another platform idea to use for when I run for President. All computers MUST have spell check installed!

I have done most of these things that irritate everybody.Everyone has been talking about education but a big part of what were talking about is effort with a constant desire to learn. What good is it to understand how to make the RBV work if you can't intelligently share that information.I'm not the best on here but a lot better than I was. When you don't put out that extra effort your cheating yourself and only learning about cars.

And we are back to the seat belt argument. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have a way of forcing people to use it.

Also, I frequently use words (especially on TRS) that I know are spelled correctly and the spell checker flags them, OR that I know are spelled wrong, but are darn close and the checker doesn't bring up the word I want.

One of my all time pet peeves is when someone calls an Explorer an "Exploder". Hardy har har. Maybe it's my fondness of Ford products that brings this out in me, or maybe it's because that individual is an unoriginal bastard. When this particular phrase is in the topic description, I seldom even view the post.
