Kunar's Budget Build


this thread's been dead for a long time. theres been a lot of stuff ive done since ive updated and i may update some of that stuff eventually but for now, pics of my wheels and tires! found a deal on a set of 33x12.5x15 all terrains a month or two back. hunted for a while to find a deal on some wheels i could use. finally found some "scratch and dent" 15x10 dick cepek dc-2's. certainly not a killer combination for mud or rocks, but it sees the street more than it sees dirt.

test fit. as you can see, im gonna have to remove a little sheet metal.

marked where i want to cut. black line (outside the tape) is where my bushwacher cutouts *should* fit someday. tape is 1/2" wide, that extra will be folded over for a little extra strength.

first one done. the other side was as simple as a mirror image. the rears were cake compared to the front.

dick cepek doesnt make an open center cap for us guys with lock outs, so i made my own.

as you can see, my alignment is off because of these new wheels and tires. i would have never expected it, but now that i think about it i guess it doesnt surprise me. the new wheels are 15x10 with a 3.625 back space. in effect, it makes the lever that is a ttb beam a full 3 inches longer. obviously the same weight applied to a longer lever will have more force on my springs. anyways, i plan on a washer or two under each coil to get it back up to proper height and alignment.
 
I'm diggin it as well. Egads though, that rust is el terriblé on the back right.

Wheels and tires had NOTHING to do with your alignment. The larger tire size just emphasizes it more. You really could benefit from a spacer. That's about 2.5 degrees out of wack.

Truck looks good btw.

they are just some cheap headlights i found on ebay. i love the look but they are awful as far as light output. been thinking about going back to the standard glass sealed beams with some fairly light window tint on the face. i wanna keep the "blacked out" look, but black reflectors are not the way to go!

stop and think about it a sec. i went from stock aluminum ranger wheels (15x6) to low backspace 15x10's. now as we all know, the ttb suspension in this truck is quite literally two large levers with a pivot point at one end, a spring somewhere near the middle and the load at the opposite end. the pivot point didnt change, the spring didnt change, the load didnt change, but the length of the lever increased by roughly 4 inches. the weight of the truck has more leverage on the spring and the ability to compress it farther with the same load. all of that aside, i put one single washer under each spring and it brought it nearly back to perfect, at least as far as i can tell.

this thing will never be done. i add to the "want" list faster than i can cross them off. on top of that, ive never seen anybody that can compete with your progress. :dunno: by the way, where's the build thread for truck norris??

my new seats! and holy crap guys, these things are comfortable. they make this truck feel like a totally different vehicle. anybody recognize them, wanna guess what they came out of?

sure is! they are exactly identical to the ones in my 87 turbo coupe. i got a screamin deal on them, i really just wanted the power bases for the tbird. i figured i might as well put the seats to good use. gonna be a shame if i get them dirty/muddy though.

Either way, they look awesome and comfy.
they definitely are. i dunno why, but they feel even better in my truck than they do in my tbird. maybe im used to the car having nice seats and the truck having old worn out junk....
 
Hah, awesome. I like them alot.

By the sounds of it, you have some pretty cool fords. Those Thunderbirds are growing on me more and more..
