km2s vs. all terrains.

Well.....we can argue about why he should buy a different brand right? LMAO

I had a set of BFG A/T once and they did good on road, ok on dirt, but just filled up with mud off road and had no traction, if you plan to be in mud I wouldn't get the BFG A/T as your only tires, you could run a second set of wheels with mud tires like somebody else suggested. i have run mud tires on road for several years on my daily driver, and i run them on 900+ miles trips on the interstate at 70mph a couple times a year.

hmmm im not sure if thats even worth it lol, aside from what not to buy lol

if u want a mud terrain with a harder compound, the toyo's have a VERY nice tread life, they lasted 60k miles underneath a 2004 Chevy 1500 Quad Cab, the longest wearing mud terrains ive ever seen under such a heavy vehicle

I only squeaked 15k a set out of the mud=terrains on a Jeep Cherokee. 3 sets
I know for a fact my buddy put over 40k on his BFG M/Ts on his XJ and they still had about 20% tread when he totaled it.

I only expect 40 thousand miles out of my AT's. They have about 33K on them right now and they are down to an 3/16".

efff all terrins nuff said any dirtish offroading and they get caked up and turn to slicks.....now muds spin em abit and the self clean and get grip but allterrains suck emv en on roads when it rains.... fer real

them toyo's got my attention, but my dad said that beadlocks are illegal to have on the road? that true? i mean i dont really care, i do plenty of stuff that is frowned apon by the law, but my dads the one payin for this stuff so yea..

I have about 7k on my Jeep Rubicon BFG KM1's on my 2002 F-150 (quite a bit heavier than either a Jeep Cherokee or a Ranger) and they still essentially look new...

I do rotate them at every oil change and between a oil change though (so about every 2500 miles) That is the biggest problem with a mud tire, they are very unforgiving with rotating.

I was going to get AT's of some sort, but these were $50 a tire cheaper than the cheapest AT I could find.

Not the greatest tire, but far from the worst IMO. There is a little whine on the highway but nothing too bad.

There are a few commercial tires, which have super aggressive tread, available for light truck sizes. Granted they are not cheap, but those compounds last 80k miles under our trucks loaded to 107k pounds....

I'm coming close to 30K miles with my BFG KMs. They easily still have 50% tread left on them.
My big issue with them has been severe tread chunking (in the pic you can see on the passengerside-rear a whole lug chunked off and half of one right above it), however if you don't rock crawl much, I don't think this would become an issue (that's if BFG is using the same rubber compound on the KM2 tread, not sure if they changed it to any significant degree or not).

REally? you got a set of toyos to last longer then 15,000 miles? Holy S**T!

I have never seen those tires last past 15K. One of my buddies had 2 sets and got through both of them on his dodge in one year. and he has a set on his zuki right now that have about 7K and about half tread left. and 3 customers came back when they went to get the winter tires on threw a fit at the desk guy about how the tires wore out so fast.

PLus they are soft heavy and overpriced... I have a strong hate towards toyo... :icon_twisted:

My guess is the tire wear could probably be affected by the climate in the area your living in. I've got close to 17k on my BFG KM's and they're about half tread but the roads down here in Florida are hot and that sure doesn't help good mileage out of mud tires. My tread isn't chunking to bad but theres some spots on the edge where they did chunk a little bit. Sloppy stuff I'd go for m/t's or bring a buddy and a tow strap with you and get some more road friendly A/T's. If your in sand more often than A/t's. It's more of a trade off between getting good mileage and doing good in sand or doing good in mud and get worse mileage out of the tires and possible tread chunking.

alright i live in charleston, sc but i also frequently go to florida and stay with family and ive seen just how well the km2's do. they do pretty good here in sc when we're in the soupy nasty mud we get round here when we're sown by the river. now they arent no super swamper but they do pretty good considering how mild a tire they are personally i would get them if i had the money

I have km2s on my ranger and im running a locker, i have 23000 miles on them and im hard on them. I drive over rocks, spin on rocks, drift, run over stuff i should go around, tie chains with them and they have 50 percent thread left, so i might just get 46000 out of them. Now i do rotate them every 5000 miles and balnce them every 10000. Best tires ive ever had, they handle great on wet streets ( shocked me, i had to different sets of good year tires on it before worst tires ever!)

chunking out brand new boggers really sucks. or shredding any new tire.

30 k is outstanding for those tires let alone 1/2 life:icon_thumby:
