Kinda pricey...

Even though it is cool, this is not practical at all. At least twice a month I make a trip more than 100 miles. What good is 144 miles to the gallon if you can't even get 144 miles withough stopping 4 times for 8 hours. If they could get the range closer to 200 miles, it'd be much better.

Wat happens when it's minus twenty odd, like now. The battery capacity drops down to nothing and what about heat. the batteries would be flat before the windscreen was de-iced.

at 18,500 it is cost prohibitive. you can pick up a 1999 ranger 2wd with a 4cyl for $2000. that is a $16,500 difference in price ....... how much gasoline can you buy with that, compared to how long it takes the batteries to wear out.

you bring up a good point, even if you don't scrounge used parts you can build a ranger EV for 10,000$ less than the ford crap.

the battery trays are equipped with heaters to minimize battery performance loss in cold weather. the heater, lights, blower motors, etc all have a minimal impact on range.

BDAB brings up a valid point, the initial cost is high. IMO the reliability of an EV can be compared to that of a brand-new gas powered rig (maybe even higher), so for me, paying new vehicle price for a rig thats 8 years old is worth it. (the only reason i would ever buy a brand new car is for reliability, so that works for me. some of you may have other reasons for buying new so it may not work for you.)

you can always go the route of building your own EV. some people have done it for under $5K. but you wont achieve anywhere near the range or efficiency of a factory built and tuned rig. on top of that, regenerative braking is very difficult and expensive for the average joe to incorperate into his build, and the ranger EV already has it set up and ready to go.
