Killed my ranger last night (Modified V-8/Supercharged) Any input?

I need to re-do my write-up, I keep learning more and more...

I MAY have found the issue...

my transmission is a 1997, not a 1998+, by switching to the 2001 harness on the engine side I've debunked a connector on the trans-side:

Wiring change in 98 on one part of the harness, causing my truck to be 'stuck' in 2nd gear and throwing a batch of trans codes.

Well maybe you have figured my problem out then as well.

Speedo does not work nor do my reverse lights.

96 Expo Engine computer, 98 Expo 4R70W trans and 05 Ranger interior computer.

If you have figured that out PM me so I can get it straightened out. I am using my GPS for a speedo now and I miss cruise control.

the ECU and transmission don't matter, what DOES matter is the year of the engine and transmission HARNESSES infact. most of the sensors are the same, or at least send the same signal from my reading.

I have BOTH sensors hooked up (Rear VSS on Diff, which does not interact with the ECU at all, AND the transmission speed sensor).

Specifically there is a difference in the years of the speed sensor that did cause issues I recall, I had to replace mine, but I don't recall with what or why...

Ok then, the ECU and harness 96 Expo and transmission is 98 4R70W Expo.

When I FIRST did the swap, I ran a 1996 ECU and ENGINE harness, and a 1997 Transmission and Harness.

I modified the 1996 Harness to work with a 2001 ECU by switching to a 2 wire CPS, and installed the 2001 ECU (Return-less fuel system, and my motor is a 98 with GT40p heads so I figured there may be other benefits to running that ECU)

I have a 2003 Ranger FX4 rear end (and my trucks a 98) so I have BOTH VSS's on my truck I don't recall if they are both plugged in or which one gives signal, but I THOUGHT my trans was a 98, and I know I replaced the VSS on the transmission, so I have a 98 VSS on my transmission right now, and a 2003 VSS on the rear end.

I have switched to a 2001 Engine harness, and my speedo still works correctly, but half my transmission stuff is Fuxxxed wiring wise (and I can no longer start the truck with my key... I have to 'hot wire' it under the hood), so I suspect my truck is actually pulling signal from the rear diff, and not the ECU... What rear end are you using?

According to my source, if you were to put a newer trans/harness in an older vehicle, you would be stuck in 2nd gear, and be at max line pressure.

EDIT: I didn't see this Dan, sorry for this post...... you already were experiencing that.

Any luck finding the diagrams/pinouts for the 97 Transmission harness MAIN connector Vs. 98+?

I am using my stock 05 rear end for now. Plan is to switch out the 05 for the 96 bc it has a LS & 3.73.

Any CEL's for the VSS missing? Sounds like yours is looking for the signal from the trans if you have the stock rear end still.

I wish I had a picture of the main harness connector. I have 2 pdf files that appear to be different connectors, as they have different numbers of pins. If you PM me your email, I can send them to you and see if it's what you are looking for. If not, I'll keep digging.

I PM'ed it to you the other day :(

Does not matter now. The 96 Expo rear end is going under the truck Saturday. We plan on working on the reverse light issue as well. :yahoo:

Dan, did those help at all?

Sry I didn't get back sooner, they were a huge help (Identified that there is basically nothing the same...)

I pulled the full engine and trans harness with C116 still connected, I'm going to cut it out, and just make it all one harness, screw this "Sub-Harness" Crap, it was still super easy pulling it out in one piece MINUS the size of that stupid C116 connector...
