Key-less start

Well like I said, I have one in my '03'. Can look out the window and start it, let it warm up, it also locks to doors so someone can't get in. Use the key or fob to open the doors but as soon as you touch the brakes, ignition is cut off, forcing you to use the proper key.

@hoosier did not know about that. Thanks.

@MAC, my truck is 26 years old, not going to have something like this from the factory. I was thinking of the retro fit type situation.

@Psychopete I had in mind an embedded Linux running on an Arm based product like an Android based phone.

The system could also handle music and nav. I do realize there are products like this out. Although I haven't seen one based off of a RFID, USB or bluetooth device. Most have a key fob.

Again I just wanted to generate some discussion on the matter.

Do an RFID system. And this ain't a redneck forum. I myself am not. In fact I am far from it. I'm asian.

@mp3deviant721 I did not mean it as a slight. It was meant as a funny. The only thing about RFID, is that security has been shown to be a little lacking. But barring that I think it would be the way to go.

I am going to be installing this system soon hopefully with a Smart Start setup. I am looking forward to it. :headbang:

Interesting concept.

I already have keyless start installed on both my RBVs. Only works for Acc on the B2 though. Guess I need to wear that lock cylinder out some more.

Problem with this idea on a Ranger is that all RBVs have a mechanical steering wheel lock that is disengaged with the ignition key. In fact most vehicles have this and the few that don't have a PATS system that would need to be dealt with.

Finally, does someone from Alabama (a state with a Country band AND a country-fired rock song named after it) really have room to talk about redneck?

There is no rule against being Asian and redneck.

My best friend, who is the biggest redneck ever, drove a Civic for years and had a fit when a tree fell on it.
