KB-29 plaque replacement - Please help

Cordova is a beautiful place. I'd like to go back there and run the old rail bed. Costs about $400 round trip to get a truck there though! Here are some pics of places you should recognize.

Yes, he did all the work on his van. He has since sold it. I believe someone in California bought it.

i didnt recognize the second one since i never made it to the reservoir in the 5 years i lived there...but mary knew where it was. i think somewhere ive got pics of the bridge when it was still down in the water. we went over the temporary fix in an early '80's civic :D

what kinda time frame you looking at, I will have a small donation after christmas............. it will be coming out of my truck fund.

BDAB, after Christmas is great. We would like to get it back up next summer but it is up pretty high (late melt off) and summer is a long away off right now. After Christmas will be great. Thanks you!!! :headbang:

For those of you that have heard of it, this is the original "bridge to nowhere".

It was built to support the train hauling copper ore from the mines at Kinneott to Cordova where it could be loaded onto a ship and transported out of state. From the direction you are looking, the road crosses the bridge and goes about another mile and stops. It was damaged during the 1964 earthquake and repaired at the cost of $19 million in 2004. The reasoning was if the span fell, it would be more expensive to remove it from the river than to repair it. Being the Copper River has a large salmon run, removal would have been required.

The Child's Glacier is about a mile downstream from this bridge and is a monster. Check this out!!

In Texas there has been a rash of people stealing memorial plaques - some say they they are doing it for the metal - I'd make the next memorial out of granite.

This is beautiful country and what you are doing is a great thing.

Wow I can't believe someone would steal a memorial plaque like that. It's just sick. If they tried to sell it, wouldn't the local metal dealer get suspicious about them trying to sell a memorial?

As soon as we found out it was missing, they were our first stop. Either they are not fessing up or no one has tried to recycle it.

Thanks Insanejughead!!! Much appreciated. I'll get it into the PayPal account tonight.
