K and N for christmas...worth it?

get a bodylift or off road lights instead. they will improve the trucks look.

i laugh...or try to laugh at this topic.

it is frustrating.

the stock cold air intake is a cold water sucking engine destroyer. it is ultra restrictive by any comparison, and restrictive by design to shut the fawker up. NVH has a place in this oem setup....

for the VAST MAJORITY of the buyers of the ranger it works peachy.

FOR SOME it will kill their engine. FOR SOME it will hinder performance.

old school paper filters for these late models are hard to find, most are some synthetic stuff(though they look like paper) these days and tolerate some water pretty impressively by comparison to the real paper type things..

the type of intake one can benefit from depends on ones actual use of the vehicle. if its pretty much stock street any filter upgrade from stock is a waste.

the k&n is a very finicky product to use if your not a true performance enthusiast...or dont have the good sense god give a grasshopper.

you need two of them at the least, and they are a pain in the ass to deal with. but for my off road needs and goals they are perfect.

for joe shmoe they are a bane.

your needs sound pedestrian, my vote is no. spend that money on a weekend trip somewhere :dunno:

If you like large pores in your air filter and sucking in dirty oil, the K&N is great :icon_thumby:

I prefer AEM dryflow filters.

well, your talking to the wrong guy if thats a 100 percent application....the large pores and dirt are relative, but my engines go well in excess of 200 k and never failed from improper filtering. none ever. if i was stupid enough to keep a stock air intake system on the other hand i would have experienced 100 percent engine failure.

the aem is the shit for my psd, but the ranger sees goo. aem and goo is a showstopper with a maf rig. i learned that the hard way. but it is what it is.

the aem is a far superior filter, i have no qualms with that. light years superior, and for my dry use, ideal.

goo and maf systems should get the snorkel installed and k@n swapped in when the mud tires go on..
