Just some questions for my B3000

Hey yall. I just got my truck bout 3 weeks ago and I love it. .got about 107k miles 5speed and that awesome green color. Anyway I've been wanting to get some more umph out of it without killing my milage (avg about 27 hwy and 22 city). I'm definitely gonna get a new air filter and a flowmaster setup but what are som other suggestions? Thanks for any feedback

Don't waste your money on the air filter unless the one in there is dirty. For more umph, re-gear it, get smaller tires or sell it and get a truck with a 4L. The 3.0s aren't known for being torque monsters.

Well I plan on gearing it someday with 4:11s but for now i need a cheap sub. The air filter isn't that bad but I will replace it soon. I just bought a cold air intake that I'm gonna put on when it gets here. I don't think I want to get the 4.0 because I got a friend with an 03' ext cab and the only things he did to it was put some flowmasters on it and then geared it a little higher with 31" tires but hes gettin like 15 mpg city so the 4.0 is out of question

Hey man word of caution, mine has a 4:11 gear in it's 8.8'' rear end and its gas sucks. I get 13-15city and 16-17 highway, and I drive really smooth too.
I have the 1999 b3000 with K&N fipk2 cold air kit, custom flowmaster exhaust and that helped to get me where I am now. And no I dont run my 36'' tires for daily driver, with them on i get like 12mpg, for every day driving I run a set of yokohama at 265/75-16. Oh can yours burn out going straight just flooring the gas, mine will only do it A) if i am turning B)if i hold the brakes first to get them going?
But I can not say as to what gas was before because it came from the factory with the4:11 gears in the 8.8'' rear end.

please stop calling them 4.11's...our axles have an available 4.10 ratio, no 4.11's.

secondly, so called "cold air intakes" arent going to improve anything unless you happen to be carrying several hundred dollars in pennies around in the back of your truck which you consiquently spend on your shiney intake system. the factory intake is already a true cold air system, which is more than sufficient for a stock engine, and also includes a preheater to get the engine up to temp. faster on cold days...thus improving cold weather driveability and fuel economy. most "cold air intakes" include an exposed cone-style filter element which sits in the hot engine compartment and breathes hot engine compartment air...making it a warm air intake which is more likely to decrease fuel economy and power.

and dont get me started on aftermarket exhaust systems....

Sorry man im used to working on my other truck with a 4:11, and yes your right mine is a 4:10

The CAI does help although little, but in the long run it will more than pay for itself, not to mention roughly 5 hp gains. Also mine is not shiny mine is the black plastic tube, and the air filter is sealed off from the engine aginst the hood with a rubber seal, therefore mine is not bringing in the hot engine bay air.

As for the whole pre-warmer thing. Your probably right, but I dont worry about that down here in georgia it never really gets cold.

And on the exhaust it does help give a little more power which in turn pushes the truck along with less effort, therefore giving more mpg.
As long as your not forcing more fuel in the engine, usually the more power=more mpg.Plus hey it just sounds better, I have people ask me a lot if I have a 5.0L in my truck becuse the way it sounds!

But yes i will have to agree, unless you are planning on keeping the truck LONG TERM ie 10+ years, then it is probably not worth it.

Stay with the OEM intake......

Hey green Mazda. Yes I do burn outs all the time now with my 31's on there I'm a little more careful. Since its a 5speed I can do it in turns or by just droppin the clutch at like 4000 revs (I've only done that 2 times not good for my engine)

yeah thats how I blew my tranny the first time 4500rpms and let it go. I completly blew out first gear, man you should have seen my face.... it was sooooo embarassing I was at a stop sign with people around, and to put it in second and go on.... When i went to get it fixed they had to get an entire new case and everything because the first gear had litterally fused into the casing... wish I had some pics to show you...needless to say I wont be doing it anymore. Still burn out though with the 33'' tires heck I've even lit up the 36'' a couple of times, But chunks of rubber started flying so I stoped..
